BEEHIVE TEA COZY
|
The inspiration for this design was a photo of a beeswax honeycomb candle. The shape was adorable and I immediately wanted to recreate it in yarn! I used Kraemer Yarns Mauch Chunky for both cozies. It gives a thick enough fabric, to give enough body to the shape. The smaller cozy is honey-colored, while the larger cozy is the color of beeswax.
This is a good beginner project, as, although the fabric has knit and purl sections, the entire piece is worked in Stockinette only. This is made possible by wrapping the first stitch of the new section, then turning the work, to continue in Stockinette.
I chose bumble bee buttons to embellish the cozies, but you may certainly embroider the bees on, if desired.

Kraemer Yarns Mauch Chunky, 60% New Zealand wool / 40% Domestic wool, approx
120 yd / 100 gram skein:
2-cup cozy: 2 skeins #Y1044 Butterscotch (I used 1 skein with just inches remaining.)
4-cup cozy: 2 skeins #Y1019 Sweet Corn
Gauge: 14 sts and 24 rows = 4" (10 cm) over Stockinette stitch with size 10 ndls or size to give gauge.
