re-creating a knitter, mother of invention

re-creating a knitter

The rad doc. She oogled my Fana, while I was knitting it, and today I wore the spring-colored of the 2 Breath of Spring samples. Which she said was beautiful. I wear it with a peach-colored v-neck cotton top and my sand-colored khaki jeans.

She used to knit a little but didn't get far, as she couldn't make an even fabric. But she began on straight ndls, which, of course, means having to purl.

New knitters shouldn't have to deal with purling til they're comfortable with holding the ndls and knitting.

So, weeks ago, I pulled out 2 hanks of worsted weight Bluefaced Leicester and a 16" size 7 bamboo ckn. I wound one hank into a ball and CO plenty of sts to easily go around the ckn, then knit a couple rnds to get her started.

Today I had my checkup (she was away for last Thursday's checkup) and surprised her with the package. I showed her how to knit again, and showed her how I hold the yarn, but told her to do whatever her hands were comfortable doing.

She wanted to know what it was going to be. A scarf - just keep going around til it's long enough, then I'll show you how to BO and do an edging.

She was thrilled! And profusely thanked me and hugged me! I just want to make a knitter, I said. Don't like to see people give up from frustration.

It'll be just a plain natural color stockinette, scarf, but the BFL is oh so soft, and come winter, I bet she'll enjoy wearing her first creation. And I can see already, she'll be wanting to make the cardigan I was wearing.

mother of invention
I've been nearly pulling my arms out of their sockets trying to reach the middle of my back with the oils and creams I need to slather on 3-4x a day.

There's gotts be a better way.

And there is.

I took one of the wood sticks we use to prop up these old windows and, with some thread, tied on a couple of those round organic cotton pads used for astringent, that DD gave to me. Put cream on pads and now I can reach all of my back.

The Tea Tree Oil and the Calendula cream are working. By mid-afternoon, that day's radiation has me pink, but by morning, with the creams working all night, the skin is no longer pink.
