KAL Fana - part 4, Sewing the Steeks
Sewing the Steeks
I am using sock reinforcement and a regular tapestry ndl in a simple overhand stitch, to sew the steeks.
Turn the garment inside out so the knit side of the steek shows. The 9 purled sts on the RS are now 9 knit sts on the WS.
Turn the garment inside out so the knit side of the steek shows. The 9 purled sts on the RS are now 9 knit sts on the WS.

The 5th st is the center st. So overcast the left leg of the 5th st with the right leg of the 4th st.

When at the bottom, run a few sts around the CO edge then begin going back up the steek, overcasting the left leg of the 4th st with the right leg of the 3rd st.

At the top, sew around the BO edge and end off. Then reattach yarn, sew around the BO edge and begin working down the steek, overcasting the right leg of the 5th st with the left leg of the 6th st.

Then overcast the right leg of the 6t st with the left leg of the 7th st.

Then cut up the center of the 5th (center) st.

Here's the sweater with all the steeks sewn and cut open.

Seam front and back together along shoulder line. I use a running st, from the WS, working from the shoulder edge towards the neck.
Once done, I like to duplicate stitch over the seam, on the RS, using blue, in this sweater, which gives a demarcation between the 2 natural sections that are meeting at the shoulder.

Or you can use the natural, as shown here - your choice.

Hi, Dawn -
I love the detailed photos of the steeks - very clear. I never thought of overcasting the shoulders. Great idea because it makes it looks so finished.
Someone passed this info to me and I thought you might be interested. Check out this product: http://www.alkalolcompany.com/
Her father used this while undergoing radiation for cancer in his salivary glands. Recommended by his doctor. It looks like a good product to have around for use with colds and allergies, too.
Here's to your health!
