energy! and treats

Seems like the first few days after chemo, I get an energy rush - don't know why, ain't looking a gift horse in the mouth - need these 2-3 days every 2 weeks to actually get things done! Hubby could tell it was hitting me, as I went out onto the cold porch this morning to dig up the few remaining wax begonias from the 2 large urns to bring inside and repot and, hopefully, keep alive a bit longer and bring some green life into the house.

Here they are, in the pantry, which is right off the kitchen. I may move them elsewhere later, if they don't flourish here. Will see.

And, then 2 loads of laundry are being done, I changed a doc appointment, did lots of emailing, wrote this post! and began the 2nd washcloth. This Cascade Luna yarn is nice. I don't usually knit with cotton, as it never flows like wool, but this is OK. And though a roving yarn with a binder, the cotton fibers aren't bothering me much. That's the other trouble with the unmercerized cottons - they usually get up my nose and in my eyes, but the unmercerized cottons are softer than mercerized and make better washcloths, I think.

I'm using some of the wonderful counterpane patterns from Mary Walker Phillips' Knitting Counterpanes. ONE of these years, I want to make a traditional counterpane coverlet for our queen bed. It'll be an expense, unless I can luck out on a quantity of worsted wt. wool yarn at a reasonable price. But I just LOVE the look of a canopy bed with a counterpane on it!

The other thing about the 2-3 days post chemo is that I can eat and have been, to try and regain some of that lost weight. I grazed all day yesterday and am doing the same today. It's not like me to eat so much! But with the anti-emetics I'm taking, there's no fear of it not staying down.

And my cheapo shoes and boots came in today from the Lands' End overstock sale!

Yippee! The shoes need a bit of breaking in widthwise, but I think they'll be OK and at 15 bucks for leather shoes with great grippy soles, and they FLEX - how can I not!? Now the sneaks can go away til Spring. The boots were $30, still a good deal, and fully lined with fleecy warmth AND waterproof - warm tootsies to shovel snow in this winter - oh boy!

I only have 2 more treats coming - 2 pairs of clearance fleece casual pants at 7 bucks each - again, how could I not, especially when my weight loss has me down to the use of one pair of, still too big but what can I do, pants to wear!

But that's it for spending $ for a long while, except for holiday gifts, and I'm making many of those. I see Elann has a good deal coming up on the 4th - whole bags of London Tweed at just $20.50! 10, 50 gram balls will be plenty to make DD her gift sweater - even a better buy than the Webs' Berkshire I was considering! Oh, I LOVE a good buy! Who doesn't?!

SO much to do - better get crackin'!

I've been reading your blog for a long time now and am sending you healing thoughts!

I had to comment on this post. In addition to knitting I train and compete with my dogs at obedience competitions. I know of a woman whose reaction to her chemo for breat cancer was to get a huge rush of energy. She had a new puppy at the time and used that energy to train him and he became one of the great obedience dogs of record. His name was "High On Chemo" :)

Love your new boots! And the begonias.

Thank you, mary, for your kind thoughts of healing!

I love the High on Chemo name! I'm feeling the same way so far after chemo #2. Though the hour time change has me feeling a bit disccombobulated today!
