Panther-ing
I've been spending the past few days getting used to Panther (10.3) and working in Classic mode. So far, so good. Though I had to update to 10.3.9, so that I could download Google Earth. I used to have to bug son (who's already working 100 hours a week on his doctorate and research work) to Google Earth potential new home addies and send me the jpegs, so we could see if a house was near a fire station, school, etc - all the things realtors never put in home descriptions! So, now I can do it myself.
Also had to download Firefox, as Safari is not supported by Blogger. My blog looked horrible! in Safari. But Firefox has no autofill, that I can find, nor text icons in the navigation bar. Soooo, I downloaded the X version of Icab, which has all the things I was used to in IE 5 for Mac.
And I had to find a notepad accessory, as OS 9's notepad was infinitely useful and X doesn't come with it. Work MUST be able to continue on in the same easy way as before!
The dock's a little slow and I can see why X users use other apps instead of the dock, but I'm OK with it for now. So many little adjustments to make after changing OSs, before one can really work.
Today's exciting work (not) is to get ALL the files for each design from the zips they're on, to the Wallstreet and then ethernet them over to the Imac. I have no plans for buying an external zip drive for the Imac - no need, as it has a cdrw drive.
And knit on the new sweater sample, which has been languishing, with me doing only a row here, a row there.
So, I better get to it, before the snow comes and I'll have to shovel.
Onward.

Hi, Dawn,
I don't have a clue what you're talking about: Panther, Firefox, Safari, autofill, Icab, etc., but whatever you're doing, it looks great on this end. Instead of being a teensy-weensy almost unreadable font size, your text is big and bold. No more squinting to read your blog. :-)
Thanks,
Toni

Hello Toni,
OK - what I'm talking about is Macintosh operating systems - Panther is OS X version 10.3, and browsers - Safari, Firefox and Icab are all browsers.
Autofill is a function of some browsers - usually in the tools or preferences of your browser.
You enter data into the Autofill form, so that, when you get to a form online, like a shopping cart form, you just click on autofill and it fills in all that data that's far too repetitive to type in each and every time.
Not to mention how much room for error there is when one types it in - I've received orders with misspelled town names, for instance, which can be avoided by using Autofill (after first making sure everything is spelled correctly in Autofill!)
As for how my blog looks now - all I did was put up today's post using a different browser. Don't know why it should look different, as the size of the type face I have set in Icab is the same as was in Internet Explorer 5 for Mac - 16 pt.
That's something else to look into - go into your browser prefs and you can change the default font and font size to suit *your* eyes' needs!
Alternately, (and I have to do this alot with some websites whose code overrides my settings) is to just increase the page's font size. In your browser, there should be font larger and smaller icons. Click on larger until it is comfortable for you. In Macs, all I need to do is hold the apple and + kes together, which does the same thing.
Anyway, I'm glad it's easier for you to read now, though my browsers always loaded the page in a plenty large font size, as my sight is not great by a long shot!
