CIC Update

Those on the CIC email list have already read Karen's latest report, regarding the airlines' severely cutting back on luggage weight, from 75 lbs to 50 lbs.

This, of course, adversely affects how many knits and supplies can get to the orphanages. So, although the challenge for the older kids' sweaters and socks is still on, when I do begin my CIC knitting, it will be for the smaller children, which is what is most needed - aged 6 months to 4 years.

And as Karen said she'd provide addresses, I'll see about sending the knits directly to the orphanages. I just popped on over to USPS and a 2 lb package to Russia is (approx.) $20, 3 lbs - $23, 4 lbs - $26. So, it makes sense to send a larger package, especially as the box itself can usurp a lb. of weight.

So I better get these 2 design patterns done and released, and make quicker work of the new design sample, instead of lolly-gagging on it!

PS. I couldn't help myself.

Last night, I wanted to knit, but didn't want to work on the cables in my new design, so I CO 30 sts onto size 5 dpns, using a single strand of Cascade Eco+ wool in the same azalea pink in my Flower Baby Blanket (leftovers!).

I worked k1, p1 rib for about 5", then worked a St st flap on 14 sts for 12 rows.

Worked a v-heel down to 8 sts.

Picked up and knit 6 sts along each side of the flap and decreased on EOR until I had 26 sts. (I wanted the ribbed leg to fit whatever chubby baby legs it might meet - hence the 4 extra sts in the leg.)

This morning, I knit around until the sock was 4" long, then shaped the toe.

The little thing weighs 19 grams (.66 oz!). I was wondering what I was gonna do with the bright-colored little bits left over from all these baby blankets I've been designing - now I know.

Onward.

Those bright socks will be much appreciated, I'm sure. When I visited Russia in 1990, I came away with an impression of greyness due, no doubt, to the cement buildings and overcast wintery skies. Bright spots of color in such a landscape will bring joy to the heart of the wearer and those who see them being worn.

Hi Dawn! I was at TNNA this weekend and saw a yarn that I thought you might want to check out. It's a sort of rustic-ish yarn, but still nice. The site is http://www.cestariltd.com/. They raise all the sheep and their 100% Merino yarn comes in 30 colors (according to the color cards they gave me). I just saw it and thought of you. They also have a cotton wool blend that I liked the colors of.
