It's Raining Dog Ailments and NO House Buyers

Well, apparently the dog was feeling left out of hubby's and my growing list of physical problems!

Not only did he have surgery recently to remove a hanging sac and have 2 skin biopsies (at $410, on top of his yearly checkup and shots at $162 the week or so before), which the vet concluded were, get this - allergies - and a minor bacterial infection (which she said *wouldn't* go away with the antibiotics he was given after the surgery. Noooo, she said he'd need *different* antibiotics for that.

As his hair was getting long and it was clearly time for another groomer visit, after which I could then determine the state of his skin, he went to the groomer last Friday ($40), and I could see that his skin was all cleared up. It HAD been a mess. But was a mess no more - needed different antibiotics - yeah right. And the irritation and discoloration he was having between his legs, which caused him to lick it all the time, has ceased as well. No more licking and it looks like it's healing.

So, we begin to breathe this sigh of relief (silly us), for both the dog and our WAY overburdened budget. ONLY to have the numnutz run around after he came home from the groomer (as he does EVERY time he's been away from home, or when *we've* been out and then come home!), but this time pulls something in his rear leg. Watched him and took care of him over the weekend. It was no better by Monday, so hubby calls vet for an appointment - for this morning.

So, what has he gone and done to himself - tore a ligament. Vet says torn ligaments won't heal. Gave him a big bottle of Cosequin. Today's total: $85 ($67 for the pills, $18 for the quickie vet visit). That's it. We are SO NOT made of money. Hubby will be working OT until doomsday to pay for the dog's vet bills. And NOW we can look forward to carrying him up the 15 stairs to bed every night, and up the back kitchen steps, every tme he needs to go out, for the rest of his life. Oh the joy never stops, does it?

The dog has done his best and has, indeed, succeeded in catching up to us - he should feel jealous no longer that we have need of such a wide variety of doctors to see (not that we get to see them all - who has the time and the money?). He has now surpassed his medical allotment, for some time to come. Back to the pile of untended needs of we humans, which await the SALE OF THIS HOUSE ALREADY!!

I was joking with hubby last night, that as MOST people *retire* to the cape (and we're NOT of retirement age - not for 30 years yet, and probably not even then), maybe that's how old we'll be when this house finally sells. We'll be forced to move into an assisted care unit and someone will have to WHEEL us down to the beach, instead of being able to take those long strolls every evening on our own 2 feet!

This is NOT how we see our lives and it is NOT what our lives will become, if I have anything to say on the matter, and you bet your sweet bippy I have something to say about it. The squeaky wheel is supposed to get the grease. How much more squeaky can I possibly be? I want results NOW, dammit. I want one of these non-committal buyers to get off the fence already and make a choice.

This is the latest reason I'm hearing as to why, after 7.5 months, there's still no bites. They're not buying anything, apparently. Lookie Loos, all. If they're waiting for gas prices to fall, and/or if they're waiting for a Democrat to get back into office again (God, aren't we all) before they can commit, they have a long wait ahead of them. Come on guys, take a chance, and buy this great house!!
Comments:
Dawn, I can SO relate to the whole dog "surpassing his medical allotment" thing, and then some! In February, our nearly 12 year old Malamute was in the hospital for a week with pneumonia (beginning with a 1:30 am trip to the vet ER when he began coughing up blood).
Then, as if that wasn't enough drain on the bank account, in March one of our cats was in the hospital for 8 days and was diagnosed as diabetic. So now, in addition to the vet bills, we also have to pay for the twice-daily insulin and syringes. Too bad we can't count them as dependents on our taxes, and deduct THEIR medical bills!
Anyway, now you know why I haven't purchased anything from you recently, even though I would love to have that cashmere...

Hi Nancy,
Your dog and cat have our dog beat! They really should be allowed as dependents, or at the least, their vet bills should be deductible!

I feel for your budget - it stinks that life should cost so much! And we're not talking extras, just needs. But I keep reminding myself that Abundance does exist and I hope that all who need and IT can meet up one day real soon!

Long time no read, you have been busy! My girl dog got yours beat, after a several hour hike in the mountains she nearly cut off her toe on something civilization left behind.... 400 bucks and counting. Toe is better now though, knock on wood.
I wanted to tell you, the hollyhock seeds germinated great in my yard and are all coming up now, I do wonder though if they will bloom for me this year or if I carefully have to tend them over the winter for next year :)
Thanks again for sending them!
